Action Line

An Action Line has been established to allow Joint Base Lewis-McChord community members to express their concerns and ideas directly to the commanding general. Your issues will be addressed by the I Corps commander and his staff. The Action Line number is 967-0093.

Enhanced performance

The Army Center for Enhanced Performance is offering a one-day seminar on Feb. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Battle Command Training Center, Building 1240, on Railroad Avenue, south of the DuPont Gate. Just as physical training strengthens the body, mental training strengthens the mind and enhances human performance. Develop a foundation in mental and emotional skills based on applied sport psychology techniques, which include goal setting, confidence building, energy management, attention control, and imagery. Use state-of-the-art technology and then apply these techniques during this seminar. Call 968-7642 or e-mail LewisACEPWebmaster@conus.army.mil to reserve your seat. Space is limited.

Flu shots

Joint Base Lewis-McChord Soldiers should report to their respective units for both seasonal and H1N1 flu shots.

All units are responsible for ensuring that all active-duty Soldiers receive both vaccines, unless the Soldier has a medical exemption. The I Corps Surgeon’s Office is coordinating the vaccine campaign for JBLM units to ensure that all Soldiers are vaccinated before the vaccination suspense date of April 1. Madigan Army Medical Center will only provide seasonal or H1N1 flu shots for those active-duty Soldiers who are assigned to Madigan. For more information, e-mail Master Sgt. Juan Tienda at juan.c.tienda@us.army.mil.

The H1N1 vaccine is available for patients enrolled at the JBLM McChord clinic. The vaccine is mandatory for active-duty Airmen and optional for family members and retirees. The immunization clinic is open weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Major General Patricia D. Horoho, commanding general, Western Regional Medical Command, will relinquish command of the Western Regional Medical Command to Maj. Gen. Philip Volpe, during a Change of Command Ceremony Thursday, at 3 p.m., Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s Soldiers Field House.

Horoho, who is also the chief of the Army Nurse Corps, served as the commander of both the Western Region and Madigan Army Medical Center from July 2008 to June 2009. Horoho’s new duty assignment will be in Washington, D.C., where she will serve as the deputy surgeon general.

Volpe, a board-certified family medicine physician, comes to the Western Regional Medical Command from the National Capital Region where he served as the deputy commander, Joint Task Force - National Capital Region Medical. Volpe has held numerous command assignments including serving as brigade commander of the Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s 62nd Medical Brigade from June 2000 to June 2002.
