Officers of the 42nd Military Police Brigade enjoyed one last physical training session with Col. David P. Glaser, the current brigade commander.
On the morning of Feb. 9, Glaser gathered all of the captains together, along with a few other Soldiers, at the Joint Base Lewis McChord Confidence Course.
The course tests just that, confidence — confidence in the individual and the team. After a brief walk through and warm up, the teams began the course. They ran, jumped, climbed, crawled and did whatever else they had to do to finish the course.
Every team did its best to accomplish the task, but in the end it was down to two teams. The final two teams were then pitted against one another in a push-up competition. Officers from each team were selected to do as many push-ups as they could in two minutes.
After a grueling two minutes of non-stop effort, the winner was “Team Shifrin,” (Capt. Matthew Shifrin, commander, 595th MP Company, 508th MP Battalion, Capt. Matthew West, commander, 51st MP Company, 504th MP Battalion, and Capt. Brian Arnold, commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 508th MP Bn.)
“It was a great time and a great opportunity to get all of the captains out there and have some fun,” Shifrin said.
The victorious “Team Shifrin” received, as its trophy, a replica of an ancient Roman helmet called a Galea, which has become a symbol of the 42nd MP Brigade. They will display it proudly until the next competition with the incoming brigade commander.
“It was wonderful spending time with Colonel Glaser and my peers, doing something fun before he moves on to another unit” said Capt. Jamon Junius, training officer, HHC, 42nd MP Bde.
“These monthly leader development (PT) sessions are about team building and esprit de corps, and I will take with me these memories and cherish them,” Glaser said.
Glaser will say goodbye to the 42nd MP Bde., ending his command tour on March 19.
