Joint Base Lewis-McChord Crime Snapshot
During the period Feb. 5 to 18, the most commonly titled offense on Fort Lewis continued to be driving while license suspended, with 41 cases reported.
The next most common offense was a tie between assault and larcenies/thefts. Six of nine assaults were titled against family members. Among the nine cases where the subject of the larceny/theft was identified, three were either a family member or civilian. In the other six larcenies/thefts, the subject was unknown.
Drug offenses continue to occur in small numbers, four during the reporting period, including two charges of distribution of controlled substances.
There were seven cases of negligent or reckless driving during the past two weeks and six cases of driving under the influence.
Tip of the week: FL Reg. 210-6 states: “Prior to any four-day weekend, individual leave period and block leave windows, units will conduct vehicle safety and records check. Records checks will include driver’s license, vehicle insurance, motorcycle safety course completion, and post DOD registration.”
If units regularly conduct these inspections, it will greatly reduce or eliminate service members being titled with driving with a suspended license, lacking valid insurance, expired vehicle registration and defective equipment violations.
