Whitewater rafting
Join Outdoor Recreation for a whitewater rafting trip down the beautiful Wenatchee River Saturday, May 31 or June 12. You’ll travel to the east side of the mountains for a hot day in the sun. The group will put in near Leavenworth, then paddle through exciting class III rapids. Cost of the trip is $60; gear, instruction and transportation are included. Minimum age: 14 years old. Funtastic Carnival
The fun-filled Funtastic Carnival runs through Sunday in the PX parking lot at JBLM Lewis Main, with games, rides, hot dogs and cotton candy. Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call 967-5776.
Triple Threat Triathlon Series
The JBLM Lewis FMWR Sports Branch presents the 17th Annual Triple Threat Triathlon Series. Open to the general public, the three races are June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21. Each event starts at 9 a.m. at JBLM Lewis North’s Shoreline Park with a half-mile swim on American Lake followed by a 15-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run. Sign up quickly – participation is limited to 300 per race. Register as an individual or a relay team. Registration forms are available at JBLM Lewis Sports and Fitness Centers or at JBLMMWR.com. Fort the June 19 race, early registration deadline is June 9; late registration deadline is June 16. For the July 17 race, registration deadline is July 7; late registration deadline is July 14. For the Aug. 21, race registration deadline is Aug. 11; late registration deadline is Aug. 18.
Entry fee for active military, military family members and military retirees is $10; DOD civilian employees are $25; other civilians are $50. Add $10 to these for late registration.
Seattle Aquarium, Pike Place Market
Northwest Adventure Center is taking a van to the Seattle Aquarium and Pike Place Market Sunday.
The aquarium is filled with exhibits of Northwest sealife, featuring amazing displays to see and touch.
Pike Place Market has an assortment of unique foods and shops for you to try.
Cost of the trip is $35 for adults; $25 for children ages 4 to 12; children 3 and younger are $5. Cost includes parking, admission to the aquarium and fuel charge. After-work fishing
Try your luck after work with a trip to Spanaway Lake, Tuesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Spanaway Lake has great fishing for trout, perch and small-mouth.
The $5 fee includes bait and transportation. Fishing gear is available for rent at Adventures Unlimited. Participants must have a Washington state fishing license. Call Adventures Unlimited at 982-2206 or 982-2303.
Bike and Hike the Carbon Glacier Trail
Join Adventures Unlimited on a Carbon River Road bike ride in Mount Rainier National Park Sunday. You’ll ride 5 miles to Ipsut Creek Campground, then hike the Carbon Glacier trail 3.5 miles to the terminus of the Carbon Glacier. Horseback riding
Northwest Adventure Center is offering a horseback riding trip in the Cascade foothills near Elbe Saturday. This trip on the outskirts of Mount Rainier National Park is a two-hour guided afternoon horseback ride. No experience is necessary to participate. Bring the whole family along for a great day; all children ages 7 and older are welcome. Cost of the trip is $70. Meet at the Northwest Adventure Center at 9:30 a.m. Preregistration is required. The Prairie Stampede 5K
The Yelm Rotary is sponsoring the Prairie Stampede 5K June 19. The race starts at 10 a.m. in the Yelm Middle School parking lot, 402 West Yelm Ave. Registration and packet pick-up begins at 8:15 a.m. Day-of-race registration will close at 9 a.m. The course starts and finishes in the parking lot at the school.
Early registration is $20; $25 on race day. You can register now. Online registration is available at the website www.yelmrotary.com.T-shirts are included for early entries only. Additional race T-shirts might be available for purchase on race day.
The overall male and female winners of the Open Division as well as the Master’s Division will receive cash prizes. The top three male and female runners in each age group will receive awards.

Age groups — 0 to 18, 19 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 and older.
Sunset kayaking
Enjoy a safe and fun evening of paddling Thursday, during Northwest Adventure Center’s sunset paddle on American Lake.
You will paddle a sea kayak as you meander around the many inlets and see not only Joint Base Lewis-McChord, but the outskirts of Lakewood, Tillicum and the many beach areas on the lake. End at a cozy little cove for a barbecue spread while you enjoy the rest of the night on a secluded beach.
Cost of the trip is $35, which includes kayak, guide and barbecue. Meet at the NAC at 5:30 p.m.

Bella Donna kayaking
Lady paddlers of all levels will love Outdoor Recreations Bella Donna (ladies only) sea kayak trip to Ketron Island, June 5. Start at Solo Point and circumnavigate Ketron Island in a few enjoyable hours. Experience the beauty and tranquility of this local treasure while learning or perfecting your paddle technique. Twin Falls hike
Join Outdoor Recreation for a 4-mile round-trip hike through the lush forests of Twin Falls State Park May 30. This hike is great for waterfall lovers. The highlights are two waterfall-viewing platforms. The upper viewing area is a bridge spanning the South Fork Snoqualmie River offering great views of the pretty stair-step Upper Twin Falls. Then you hike down the trail to check out the awesome views of the 150-foot cascade of the Lower Twin Falls. Be sure to bring your camera, lunch and plenty of water for the trail. UFC Fight 114
If you like mixed martial arts, combatives or just enjoy watching a good fight, come out May 29 to watch UFC Fight 114 at Cascade Community Center (JBLM Lewis Main). Hunter safety course
It’s time now to prepare for the fall hunting season. Learn safe handling of hunting equipment, the importance of wildlife management and much more during the hunting safety education course, June 14 to 19, at the Northwest Adventure Center. This course is mandatory to hunt in the state of Washington. Class runs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and 8 a.m. Saturday. Cost of the course is $10. Ladies-only golf
Outdoor Recreation is hosting a ladies-only golf scramble June 19 at Eagles Pride Golf Course on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. This will be a beautiful day of camaraderie as you play a leisurely 18-hole, four-person golf scramble. This event is designed for all levels of skills, handicaps and abilities. A brief instruction clinic will be given at the start of the round. After working up an appetite, adjourn for lunch in the club house and revel in your scores. Meet at the Eagles Pride Golf Course at 9:30 a.m. Cost of the event is $35. Bring money for optional lunch and beverages afterward.
Single-track mountain biking
If you want to get started with the exciting sport of mountain biking, then sign up with Oudoor Recreation for the introduction to single track mountain biking May 29. This is a day of instruction designed for beginners looking to try something new. Spend the day learning the basics involved in mountain biking, while getting plenty of time to work on your newfound skills. Cost of the trip is $25, including the bike, helmet, gloves and transportation. The location will be determined based on conditions. Meet at the Northwest Adventure Center at 9:30 a.m.
