Triple Threat Triathlon Series
The JBLM Lewis FMWR Sports Branch presents the 17th Annual Triple Threat Triathlon Series. Open to the general public, the three races are Saturday, July 17 and Aug. 21. Each event starts at 9 a.m. at JBLM Lewis North’s Shoreline Park with a half-mile swim on American Lake followed by a 15-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run. Sign up early – participation is limited to 300 per race. Register as an individual or a relay team. Registration forms are available at JBLM Lewis Sports and Fitness Centers or at JBLMMWR.com. For the July 17 race, registration deadline is July 7; late registration deadline is July 14. For the Aug. 21 race, registration deadline is Aug. 11; late registration deadline is Aug. 18.
Entry fee for active military, military family members and military retirees is $10; DOD civilian employees are $25; other civilians are $50. Add $10 to these for late registration.
Mud run
Join FMWR Sports July 4 at 9 a.m. for fun and mud in the annual Joint Base Lewis-McChord “Down & Dirty” 8K Mud Run starting at Soldiers Field House. The route is filled with hills, obstacles and, of course, plenty of mud and water.
Early registration deadline is Wednesday; late registration deadline is June 30.
Active military, military family members and retirees are $5; DOD civilian employees are $10; general public is $20. Add $10 to those fees for registration after June 23. There will be no day-of-race registration. You must register, pay and sign a hold-harmless agreement before participating in this race. Register online at JBLMMWR.com. Army Strong Fitness Exposition
The Seattle Army Recruiting Battalion is sponsoring the Army Strong Fitness Exposition in conjunction with Lakewood SummerFest at Fort Steilacoom Park June 25 to 27. Come out to the park June 26 for fitness-related events and appearances by the Army’s sports partners: the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle SeaGals and Seattle Storm. June 27 will be the Army Strong 5K Challenge Run/Walk at the park.

The recruiting battalion’s goal is to continue to promote health, wellness and active lifestyles to assist the community in combating obesity, childhood diabetes, high-blood pressure and other health-related risks associated with poor fitness levels.
Freedom Fest
Celebrate Freedom Fest with Joint Base Lewis-McChord July 4 at Cowan and Memorial stadiums on JBLM Lewis Main. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. and include on-stage entertainment, the Classy Chassis car show, roving entertainers, Kids’ World, a patriotic concert by the 56th Army Band, food, fun and much more. The festivities conclude with a fireworks show after 10 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 967-5776.
Ladies-only golf
Outdoor Recreation is hosting a ladies-only golf scramble Saturday at Eagles Pride Golf Course on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. This will be a beautiful day of camaraderie as you play a leisurely 18-hole, four-person golf scramble. This event is designed for all levels of skills, handicaps and abilities. A brief instruction clinic will be given at the start of the round. After working up an appetite, adjourn for lunch in the clubhouse and revel in your scores. Meet at the Eagles Pride Golf Course at 9:30 a.m. Cost of the event is $35. Bring money for optional lunch and beverages afterward.
Ride Around Puget Sound
Enjoying the Puget Sound by bicycle is what RAPSody, the Ride Around Puget Sound, is all about. Beginning in Tacoma, the route crosses the Puget Sound on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, enjoys paved trails, scenic backroads and Northwest water and forest views during this 170-mile weekend ride Aug. 28 to 29.
RAPSody is hosted by five local bike clubs in support of the Bicycle Alliance of Washington’s statewide advocacy and education (www.bicyclealliance.org). This ride is by cyclists, for cyclists, with great food, souvenir socks, luggage transport, showers and support all included. Free overnight at Shelton High School, with on-site meals supporting the Shelton youth center, Save Our County’s Kids (www.sock.org).The deadline to order a RAPSody jersey is June 30. Save $15 on the $95 registration fee by signing up before July 27.

Prairie Stampede 5K
The Yelm Rotary is sponsoring the Prairie Stampede 5K Saturday. The race starts at 10 a.m. in the Yelm Middle School parking lot, 402 West Yelm Ave. Registration and packet pick-up begins at 8:15 a.m. Day-of-race registration will close at 9 a.m. The course starts and finishes in the parking lot at the school.

The overall male and female winners of the Open Division as well as the Master’s Division will receive cash prizes. The top three male and female runners in each age group will receive awards.
