Warrior Zone opens
The Warrior Zone Recreation Center at JBLM Lewis North is now open to all authorized ID cardholders ages 18 and older. The rec center offers 32 computer game stations, 40 Internet stations, 16 Xbox 360s and 16 PS3s for console gaming, eight tournament pool tables, 53 big screens, three projected screens, free WiFi, theater, dining area and party patio with grills.
The Warrior Zone is in Building 11592, 17th & D St, next to Wilson Sports and Fitness Center.

Alt. fuel postponed
The grand opening for the alternative fuel station at the Express on Pendleton Avenue and 2nd Division Drive (originally scheduled for Jan. 30) has been postponed. Check the Ledger for updates.

Care Fair at McChord
Enjoy a free day of wellness and pampering at JBLMs Operation Care Fair Feb. 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McChord Club/Community Center.
The event features reflexology, massages, aromatherapy, health cooking, health care and fitness professional consultations, door prizes and giveaways, hors doeuvres, live music and a no-host mimosa bar.

Garden helps needy
Volunteers are needed at the Intel DuPont Community Garden for construction of raised vegetable beds, cleaning out of winter weeds in current beds, top-dress soil from compost piles Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at 2800 Center Drive, DuPont. Bring tools like wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes and battery-powered driver drills.
In 2011 4,700 pounds of produce was harvested, from which 4,200 pounds was donated to food banks in Lakewood, Steilacoom and Olympia, RSVP to IDCG.volunteercoordinator@live.com. Keep in touch for more volunteer opportunities in the future.
Flea market sells stuff
Clean out your closets, attics and spare rooms to sell your treasures at the annual JBLM Spring Flea Market. Youth cross-country
Register through Feb. 13 for CYS Services youth cross-country running. The participation fee is $25 for youth ages 8 to 15.

Housing Office hours
Due to manpower reductions, effective immediately, the Housing Services Office customer service hours of operation are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In addition, hours of operation the last Thursday of every month are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
These hours apply to both HSO customer service locations: 5128 Pendleton Ave, Lewis Main and 553 Barnes Blvd., McChord Field. Customers are advised that service wait times could exceed 20 minutes between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
$1 books at library
Our military members and friends are welcome to a huge book sale today or Saturday at the Lacey Timberland Library at 500 College Street SE in Lacey. Come today from 1 to 3 p.m. for presale to Friends of the Library (memberships available for $5 at door good through Dec 31, 2012), and open to the public Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3;30 p.m.
Nearly all adult books are only $1; all pocket size adults only 25¢; nearly all childrens only 25¢.
Other sale dates in 2012 are April 6 and 7, June 1 and 2, Aug. 3 and 4, Oct. 5 and 6, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

AF education grants
Concerned about the soaring cost of higher education for your children?
Under its General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program, the society awards $2,000 each to selected applicants. The program continues to be offered to sons and daughters of Air Force active duty, deceased and many categories of retired Air Force members.

2012 ASIST workshops
ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two day workshop that trains you to become an effective caregiver for a person at risk of suicide. Learn to assist persons at risk of suicide. perform suicide first aid, help them stay safe and seek further help.
ASIST is an interactive workshop that equips you to recognize invitations for help, reach out and offer support, review the risks of suicide, apply a suicide intervention model and link the person at risk to community resources.
Evaluations have shown ASIST to be a very effective program, increasing a caregivers knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond to a person at risk of suicide.

Legal assistance hours
The hours of operation on Tuesdays and Thursdays have changed for the JBLM Lewis Main Legal Assistance Office, Building 2027. Hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will remain the same.
The new hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for attorney services; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for notary and power-of-attorney services. Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for attorney services, notary and power-of-attorney services.

Apply for scholarship
The Fort Lewis Family Member Scholarship Fund is currently accepting 2012 scholarship applications through March 31. Applications can be downloaded from www.fortlewisscholarship.com. Applicants are encouraged to use the fill-in form.
Family members of active duty servicemembers, retirees and surviving Family members are eligible to receive scholarships without regard to the income level of the Family or the rank of the servicemember. The applicant remains anonymous until the process is complete.
2012 African American/Black History Month observance
I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord's annual African American Black History Month observance will be held Feb. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Collocated Club, Building 700 on McChord Field. 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade will host this year's event.
