Super Sunday: Where to see the game

Published: 04:44PM February 2nd, 2012

No big screen in the barracks? No problem. The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is ready for Super Bowl celebrations Sunday all across Joint Base Lewis-McChord. No matter if you’re rooting for the New York Giants or New England Patriots, or just want to watch the final National Football League game of the season, televisions across the installation will be showing the big game and serving up free food.

Warrior Zone

The new Warrior Zone on JBLM Lewis North is hosting an XBox Madden tournament. Sign-ups start at 2 p.m. with the tournament starting at 3.

“We will have the game on all 53 TVs, and we have our movie room which we will open up if the need is there. We have a lot of ways to watch the game,” said Elizabeth Thunstedt, manager of the Warrior Zone, of Super Sunday’s festivities.

Nelson Recreation Center

Nelson Recreation Center is also hosting a Madden tournament with sign-ups at noon and games starting at 1 p.m. The football game will be shown in the ballroom on the big screen. Free food will also be available, but you must be 18 or older to attend.

Heroes Lounge

Heroes Lounge at Cascade Community Center will broadcast the game on all 10 TVs and serve free bowls of chili at halftime.

McChord Field

The Pub & Deli at McChord Field will be showing the game on a 10-by-12 foot screen and serving free hot dogs. Doors open at 2 p.m.

The Patriots and Giants will kick off at 3:30 p.m., PST, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Madonna will perform at halftime.
