Weekend Pass

Passport to Travel offers local and faraway destinations

Published: 01:50PM March 1st, 2012

Looking to take a vacation but not sure where to go? Then head over to Leisure Travel Service’s Passport to Travel Show on Wednesday. This one stop shop will host local visitors’ bureaus, as well as trip providers and resorts from around. No matter if you are looking for a weekend getaway or a vacation overseas, start at Passport to Travel.

“We tell people to look online and let us know (what they find) because we can always match (the price) or beat it,” Robee Cosby, lead recreation assistant, said.

The show is designed to allow Joint Base Lewis-McChord Soldiers, families and retirees to explore their travel options and get a sense of what Leisure Travel Service does everyday.

“We don’t charge a fee and we have a person you can talk to,” Cosby said. Beyond the typical cruises and

Disneyland trips, Leisure Travel Service agents have planned trips around the world, including one to Antarctica.

At the Passport to Travel Show, attendees can meet representatives from many of the companies that Leisure Travel Service works with daily. The Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitor Bureau will be there with local partners, including cities, restaurants and attractions, to help JBLM families get to know the area better.

“We are looking forward to reaching out to military families and making them feel at home in the area,” Shauna Lunde-Stewart, Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitor Bureau interim director, said.

They hope to help families plan fun weekends and itineraries for themselves and family and friends that visit while here at JBLM.

“It’s really exciting to talk about experiences and activities they may not have known about,” Lunde-Stewart said.

Passport to Travel will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the AFC Arena. For more information call 967-3085.
