Holiday happenings

To start your season off right, here's a list of upcoming festive JBLM, family-friendly activities

Several holiday-themed events are happening on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the coming weeks. Here is a list of where to go and what to see during this festive time of year:

Fallen Heroes Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony

When: Wednesday, Nov. 28, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Survivor Outreach Services, Building 2166

What: There will be a brief ceremony of remembrance for fallen heroes, followed by a tree lighting ceremony. For additional information call the SOS office at 966-5047.

McChord Holiday Bazaar

When: Saturday, Dec. 1, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: McChord Community Center, Building 700, McChord Field

What: Still shopping for people on your holiday list? Join us at the annual craft fair at the McChord Community Center. Buy unique handmade gifts from local crafters. This is a free event.

Mcchord Field Tree Lighting Ceremony

When: Monday, Dec. 3, 4 p.m.

Where: McChord Field Chapel Support Center, Building 746

What: The tree lighting ceremony at McChord Field includes Christmas carols and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Holiday Concert

When: Thursday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Carey Theater on JBLM Lewis Main

What: Free 56th Army Band holiday concerts performing with the Navy Band. Toys for Tots donations will be accepted in the lobby. For more information visit: http://www.lewis.army.mil/56AB/.

JBLM Lewis Main Tree Lighting Ceremony

When: Thursday, Dec. 6, 4:30 p.m.

Where: Jensen Family Health and Fitness Center on Liggett Ave.

What: Come and see the JBLM holiday tree as it lights up for the first time this season. A free reception follows the ceremony at AFC Arena with Santa photos, cookies, face painting and music by the 56th Army Band. For more information call 477-4299.

Holiday Tour of Homes

When: Friday, Dec. 7, 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 8, 3 to 7 p.m.

Where: JBLM Broadmoor Community

What: The Lewis Community Spouses’ Club is hosting its annual tour of holiday decorated homes. Get a glimpse of Christmas past as you stroll through 16 homes in the Old Post area of Lewis Main. The tour begins at the LCSC Cottage, 4201 West Way. Tickets are $15 and are good for both days. All of the proceeds from this event go directly into the LCSC welfare fund, benefiting our great community. Email lcscfundraising@gmail.com or lcsc1stvice@gmail.com for tickets.

Breakfast with Santa

When: Saturday, Dec. 15, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Where: McChord Community Center, Building 700, McChord Field

What: Cost is $9 for adults and children 10 years of age and older; $6 for children 2 to 9 years old. Infants 24 months and under eat for free. Limited seating. Advance ticket purchase is required. Sign up no later than Dec. 12. Call 982-0718 for more information.
