Attend Military Retiree Dinner

The McChord Retiree Activities Office will host the 35th annual Military Retiree Heritage Dinner Saturday, at the McChord Club and Community Center. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with seating for dinner at 7 p.m., featuring prime rib or baked salmon. Special features include portraying military tradition and memories and a traditional commemoration of past RAO Volunteers. JBLM Lewis Main Exchange and more than 50 hunting and fishing guides, vendors and outdoor experts will host an outdoor expo for service members Saturday in the Exchange parking lot.

The Outdoor Expo, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., will allow service members to mingle with locals who share enjoyment of outdoor activities in the Northwest. Expo attendees are invited to free seminars given by 17 local hunting and fishing experts to chat, share information and develop contacts.

Representatives from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Project Healing Waters, along more than 20 outdoor products manufacturers, guide services and vendors will have booths set up to answer questions and discuss their products.

The JBLM Outdoor Expo is open to all active duty, reserve, National Guard, military retiree and family members who have access to the installation.

FCC providers earn up to $2,000 a month, may qualify for subsidies and receive free child care while in training and free resources for your business.

Celebrate Freedom Fest

Celebrate Independence Day at Cowan and Memorial stadiums on Lewis Main July 4 at Freedom Fest starting at noon. It’s open to the public and offers a day of fun, food, Classy Chassis Car Show, carnival rides, games, stage entertainment, Taj Mahal stage show headliner and fireworks at dark.

Sign up for Sounders FC camp

Register now for a special youth Sounders FC Summer Camp July 29 to Aug. 2 at Cowan Stadium, JBLM Lewis Main. The camp is designed for beginners to intermediates ages 4 to15.

Register through where you’ll find costs, times and registration forms. The camp encourages good technical habits and decision making while promoting a healthy and fun lifestyle. A Sounders FC player will be on hand to sign autographs and talk with the youth.

Lancer Reunion on familiar turf

The 2013 Lancer reunion will be held Sept. 20 to 22 on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The intent of the Lancer Reunion is to bring Soldiers together who served with 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division from 2002 to 2006 to visit the old stomping ground. Register for Fitness Boot Camp

New hours at the Exchanges

The hours of operation for the Exchanges on both JBLM Lewis Main and McChord Field have changed. Golf scrambles are back

CG’s Payday Scrambles are back at Whispering Firs and Eagles Pride golf courses. If you’re an ID cardholder, you and your friends can enter five-person scrambles on the following Fridays with a 1 p.m. shotgun start: Aug. 2 at Whispering Firs; today and Sept. 6 at Eagles Pride. The cost is $30 per person and includes your greens fee, cart rental and a chance to win prizes. You can enter as a team or be placed on a team if you enter individually. Get involved in summer reading

All ages are invited to sign up for the JBLM Libraries’ summer reading program. Activities are planned for children and their parents, plus preteens, teens and adults throughout the summer.

Play at the Warrior Zone

There’s plenty to do at the Warrior Zone at Lewis North. Catch all the college and pro hoops in the Warrior Zone on your choice among 53 TVs. Tuesdays – play in eight-ball tourneys; Wednesdays – get in on Texas Hold ‘em and table games; find Xbox challenges Thursdays and see free movies in the theater room.

JBLM sustainable forests certified

Most of JBLM’s forested lands have been certified since 2002 as a sustainable forestry operation by the nonprofit Forest Stewardship Council ( JBLM was the first federal ownership in the U.S. to receive certification, demonstrating the installation’s commitment to forest management practices that consider environmental, economic, and social benefits and impacts in the context of military training. Certification lasts five years.

The first installation recertification came in 2007 and the second in 2012, which lasts until 2017. For information, visit or call 253-966-6446.

Post office open on Lewis North

The 593rd Sustainment Brigade and 22nd Human Resources Company have teamed to offer full postal services to units, service members and families on JBLM Lewis North. The Lewis North satellite post office in Building 12324 at 19th Street and 32nd Division Drive, is open to everyone with JBLM access, offering sale of stamps and money orders; standard post office supplies including flat rate boxes, express envelopes and customs forms. It accepts delivery of all categories. The post office accepts cash or credit cards. Open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed weekends, DONSAs and federal holidays. Put down that cell

Law Enforcement personnel are issuing district court violation notices for drivers using cell phones while driving on JBLM.This will require the violator to pay a $75 fine or go to court to argue before the magistrate judge. Those who opt to continue using cell phones while driving must use a hands-free device to avoid a ticket. Repeat offenders risk losing installation driving privileges.
