Visit Museum for half-price

Attend Asian Film Fest
The First Annual Lakewood Film Fest will be held Aug. 16-18 at the Lakewood Playhouse. The film fest features five award-winning Asian films and live preshow entertainment. Admission is free. Film fest is co-hosted by the Lakewood Arts Commission. For more information call 253-588-0042.
Services for the JBLM Buddhist Community
Join us at the North Fort Chapel every Thursday evening for Buddhist meditation and Dharma talk, 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7 p.m. respectively. The meditation is focused on control of thought formation for stress reduction and Dharma talk includes The Eight Fold Nobe Path and The Four Noble Truths.
Honor U.S. Army combat infantrymen
A memorial monument honoring the contributions of combat infantrymen will be dedicated on Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. on the memorial walkway at the Tahoma National Cemetery near Covington. McChord ID card hours adjusted
Customer service on McChord Field will not process passports and ID cards on Fridays from today through Sept. 30, due to civilian furloughs.
Only CAC card emergencies for active-duty service members will be processed on Fridays.
Register for Scream-free parenting event
Parents are invited to attend a free Scream-Free Parenting event, 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at Lewis North Fort Chapel, 11621 South Drive and 12th Street.
The event features a principle-based approach from the Scream Free Parenting Institute to help parents revolutionize how they parent their children. Free childcare will be provided for the first 100 registrants.

The hours of operation for the Exchanges on both JBLM Lewis Main and McChord Field have changed. JBLM sustainable forests certified
Most of JBLMs forested lands have been certified since 2002 as a sustainable forestry operation by the nonprofit Forest Stewardship Council (http://us.fsc.org). JBLM was the first federal ownership in the U.S. to receive certification, demonstrating the installations commitment to forest management practices that consider environmental, economic, and social benefits and impacts in the context of military training. Certification lasts five years. The first installation recertification came in 2007 and the second in 2012, which lasts until 2017. Force Protection conditions posted

Put down that cell
Law Enforcement personnel are issuing district court violation notices for using cell phones while driving on JBLM.This will require the violator to pay a $75 fine or go to court to argue before the magistrate judge.
Those who opt to continue using cell phones while driving must use a hands-free device to avoid a ticket. Repeat offenders risk losing installation driving privileges.

Golf scrambles are back
The CGs Payday Scrambles are back at Whispering Firs and Eagles Pride golf courses.
If youre an ID cardholder, you and your friends can enter five-person scrambles on the following Fridays with a 1 p.m. shotgun start: Aug. 2 at Whispering Firs and Sept. 6 at Eagles Pride.
The cost is $30 per person and includes your greens fee, cart rental and a chance to win prizes. You can enter as a team or be placed on a team if you enter individually.

To achieve JBLMs goal of net zero waste by 2020, installation recycling centers expanded the variety of commodities accepted.

National night out against crime
Join forces with communities nationwide for the 30th Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. From 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 6, residents in neighborhoods throughout JBLM and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout JBLM will be hosting a variety of special events such as Military Working Dog demonstration, live music, video games, bicycle rodeo and visits from McGruff the Crime Dog. Military police will also be present for walks through the neighborhood.
Lewis-McChord communities will open community centers and raffle off prizes, as well as provide free popcorn and goodies. For questions on crime prevention call 253-966-9501.
