Attend State of JBLM Town Hall meetings Monday

All JBLM civilian employees are required to attend one of three town hall sessions on Monday. Choose among 10:30-11:30 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. at French Theater; or from 3-4 p.m. at McChord Theater.

Register for Special Olympics basketball

Register through Dec. 13 for CYS Services Special Olympics basketball. The participation fee is $50 for youth ages 8 to 18. The parents’ meeting is Nov. 26; the season ends March 2.

Register at CYS Services Parent Central, building 2295, 12th and Bitar. You’ll need a full CYS Services registration on file, a current sports physical, shot record, military, DoD or contractor identity card, and two emergency contacts.

Attend Army vs. Navy game

The Naval Station in Everett is hosting the 14th annual Army vs. Navy Flag Football Game Nov. 15.

Symphony date night

It’s Date Night at the Seattle Symphony Nov. 23 for couples. For $20 per couple, ride with the McChord Community Center for an evening listening to Casa Patas Flamenco presenting “Templaza.” Price includes transportation and admission. Limited seats are available; sign up by calling 253-982-0718.

Nominate the military citizen of the year

The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the Military Citizen of the Year. Due to the recent government shutdown, the deadline for submitting nominations has been extended to Nov. 13; award presentation will be later this year at the Rotary Club of Tacoma. Attend free financial readiness classes

ACS’s Financial Readiness Program offers classes & confidential one-on-one counseling, including budgeting, debt management, credit counseling, investment education & general financial planning. JBLM SHARP office now open

The Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention office is now open to serve the JBLM community. The program offers an avenue for sexual assault reporting, sexual harassment complaints and advocacy services for military personnel and their family members over the age of 18. The SHARP office provides training for military units, work sections, and family readiness groups. All conversations with SHARP personnel are confidential.

Late night firing notice

Compete in intramural wrestling event

Weigh in and register at Soldiers Field House Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. Soldiers Field House is at 3236 2nd Division & Handrich at JBLM-Lewis Main. Weight Class information is available from the Intramural Sports Office.

Wrestling begins at 5:30 p.m. at Soldiers Field House. The competition continues Nov. 6 –7, if necessary. The Installation Championships will be conducted Nov. 7, if needed. Format will be determined by the quantity of individual and team competitors. First-, second- and third-place individuals and teams will receive awards.

Head gear is mandatory wear for all competitors and will be available for checkout at the event; as well as a limited supply of singlets.

Teams or individuals may coordinate training time at Soldiers Field House by contacting the facility manager at 253-967-4771.

JBLM Sports, Fitness & Aquatics strongly recommends that competitors obtain a physical examination prior to competing.

Range 15 closures

Funded legal education program

The Office of the Judge Advocate General is now accepting applications for the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program.

Under this program, the Army projects sending up to 25 active duty commissioned officers to law school at government expense.

Selected officers will attend law school beginning fall 2014 and remain on active duty while attending law school.

Interested officers should review Chapter 14, AR 27-1 (The Judge Advocate General’s Funded Legal Education Program) to determine eligibility.

This program is open to commissioned officers in the rank of second lieutenant through captain.

Applicants must have at least two, but not more than six, years of total active Federal service at the time legal training begins.

Eligibility is governed by statute (10 U.S.C. 2004) and is non-waivable.

Eligible officers interested in applying should immediately register for the earliest offering of the Law School Admission Test.

Applicants must send their request through command channels, to include the officer’s branch manager at AHRC, with a copy furnished to the Office of the Judge Advocate General, ATTN: DAJA-PT (Ms. Yvonne Caron-Rm 2B517), 2200 Army Pentagon, Washington, DC 20310, to be received by Nov. 1.

Submission of the application well in advance of the deadline is advised. Interested officers should contact the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at 253-477-1900 for further information.

JBLM ready for Fall Clean up

JBLM Fall Clean-Up runs through Nov. 13. Three major areas are targeted during the semi-annual event: units’ barracks, training areas and cantonment areas (common areas like stores, theaters, gymnasiums). A list of areas to be cleaned is available at DPTMS. Units work on cleaning up trash, debris and larger items like abandoned vehicles as well as removing hazardous materials and littered ammunition.

You have two great places at JBLM to watch NFL Sunday ticket games: The Warrior Zone and the Heroes Lounge inside Cascade Community Center.

Put down that cell

Law Enforcement personnel are issuing district court violation notices for using cell phones while driving on JBLM. This will require the violator to pay a $75 fine or go to court to argue before the magistrate judge.

Those who opt to continue using cell phones while driving must use a hands-free device to avoid a ticket.

Repeat offenders risk losing installation driving privileges.

EAP now at McChord Field

The Employee Assistance Program is now available at JBLM McChord Field, at 555 Barnes Blvd (CE Building). The EAP is a free, confidential information, referral and consultation service for adult living issues available to DOD civilian employees, retired military personnel, and family members of active duty service members and retirees.

Build skills in selected Microsoft technologies and earn an industry-recognized certification through the Elevate America’s Veterans program. Training is self-paced and conducted online via any Internet-connected computer. Free dental care day for veterans

Veterans who have been deployed and their spouse, who don’ t have dental insurance and are in financial need, are invited to participate in the Free Dental Care Day, Nov. 9. Event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 22516 SE 64th PI, Issaquah, Wash.

Uniform for success

The Gary Sinise Foundation is partnering with Jos. A. Bank to offer free suits to qualifying veterans and service members.

In order to qualify for the program proper documentation such as a DD214 form for retired service members or a statement of service for service members still on active duty, plus a copy of the veteran’s driver’s license must be faxed to 818-432-8999.

The suit vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The vouchers may be redeemed by the intended recipient only, are not redeemable for cash value and may not be used to purchase items other than a two-piece Executive Collection suit. Vouchers expire Nov. 11, 2013.
