Dance, run and win at reindeer dash

Get ready for the JBLM Santa’s 5K and 10K Reindeer Dash Saturday at 9 a.m. at Eagles Pride Golf Course. Wear your ugliest Christmas sweater for a contest with DJ Chrissy Williams. See the Christmas lighting festival

Want to see holiday magic? Plan now to take a motorcoach trip with Leisure Travel Services from Lewis Main to the mountain village of Leavenworth for the Christmas Lighting Festival Saturdays, Dec. 7 and 14. You’ll leave from LTS at 7:30 a.m., in plenty of time to see the opening parade at noon. See St. Nicholas, buy roasted chestnuts, try downhill sledding in the park and listen to music throughout the day. At dusk, the entire village lights up to the tune of “Silent Night.” The return trip drops you off by 9:30–10 p.m.

The trip costs $43 per person. (Children ages 5 and younger aren’t recommended due to the long ride and 14-hour day).

Female basketball players needed

JBLM golf course recognized

Whispering Firs Golf Course at JBLM has achieved the designation as a “Certified Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary” through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. David Wienecke led the effort to obtain sanctuary designation on the property and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Homebrewers compete for ‘best of JLBM’

Mrs. JBLM 2014 will compete in Bellevue

Jamie Johnson has been selected as Mrs. Joint Base Lewis-McChord 2014. Johnson will represent JBLM at the televised Mrs. Washington America Pageant January 18, 2014, 5 p.m. at the Meydenbauer Theater in Bellevue, Wash. New website supports Soldier innovation

The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force recently launched, a website that encourages Soldiers to identify tactical challenges and collaborate with innovators and other civilian supporters to design solutions and build prototypes.

The proof-to-concept effort will test the applicability of crowd-powered design processes for the REF mission.

Both current and veteran warfighters are invited to participate in the ArmyCoCreate effort.

New website offers help to parents

Service members who deploy or are otherwise separated from their families due to mission needs now have an online resource allowing them to hone their parenting skills as they reconnect with their children.

The website offers comprehensive, free computer-based training on parenting, building strong relationships, while providing ideas for technology-based activities that may aid in reuniting parents and children after deployment.

JBLM SHARP office now open

The Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention office is now open to serve the JBLM community.

The program offers an avenue for sexual assult reporting, sexual harassment complaints and advocacy services for military personnel and their family members over the age of 18. The SHARP office provides training for military units, work sections, and family readiness groups.

Commissaries soon to scan ID at checkout

Shoppers at military commissaries will soon have to hand over their DOD ID cards to be scanned at checkout.

Defense Commissary Agency officials say the scans will allow them to obtain more data about their customers.
