Taste the region’s best brews at McChord

Nominations open for Volunteer of the Year

Recognize your volunteers’ contributions by nominating them for the JBLM Volunteer of the Year award.

Anyone may nominate a JBLM registered volunteer by completing the Volunteer of the Year nomination form and following the procedures outlined. Nominations will be accepted from Tuesday through March 17.

Forms are available at the Family Resource Center, online at www.jblmmwr.com or by emailing lori.j.parker2.civ@mail.mil. Nominations must be typed, and hand-carried to the Family Resource Center at 9th Division Drive and Idaho Avenue, Lewis Main. Categories for Volunteer of the Year are: adult, family, active duty, retiree, and youth (18 and younger). Nominations are for accomplishments, impact and contributions to organizations on JBLM during Calendar Year 2013.

The Volunteer of the Year will be recognized at the Volunteer Recognition Luncheon May 1.

Pendleton Gate near Pet Bde opens Tuesday

Beginning Tuesday, the Pendleton Gate will open 4-6 p.m. weekdays for outbound Lewis Main and Lewis North traffic making a right turn only onto DuPont-Steilacoom Road. The Pendleton Gate is located on Lewis North, near the Pet Brigade.

To access Pendleton Gate: From Lewis North, take Main Street past the Lewis Army Museum, and turn right just before the bend (last right-turn before the Pendleton underpass), and continue past the Pet Brigade to the gate. From Lewis Main, take Pendleton Blvd. through the Pendleton underpass, take the first left, and proceed straight to the gate.

2014 AER Campaign Kickoff at French Theater

Class teaches how to relate & communicate

‘Military Saves’ show hits the JBLM road

The Military Saves Week Road Show continues Feb. 26, at the McChord Club & Community Center, and Feb. 28 at Stone Education Center, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The theme is “Avoid Financial Pitfalls.” JBLM AFCS Financial Counselors will be performing skits and providing classes to cover the following topics: Living Above your Means, Car Buying Issues, Predatory Lending (beyond payday loans) and Planning for Retirement.

Popeye’s on Lewis Main open until Feb. 23

Construction on Liggett Avenue and 14th Street will require Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits restaurant to be razed this summer. It will remain open until Feb. 23. Another Popeye’s will open on Lewis North later in the year.

The project will again make 14th Street a connector street from Liggett Avenue to Pendleton Boulevard.

Youth baseball signups start Monday

Good news for young baseball players. The season is almost here. Register through March 28. Spring baseball is open to youth ages 5 to 15 for $60. Lil’ Batters is open to youngsters ages 3 to 4 for $20. Practices begin April 21 for both. The Lil’ Batters season ends June 5; spring baseball ends June 14. Parent meetings: April 17 and 18 for Lil’ Batters and spring ball.
