Sgt. 1st Class Jonathan Otis, a casualty assistance officer assigned to HHC, 5th Bde., 2nd Inf. Div., helps Judah Paci put on his sandal as his mother, Erica, looks on at Paci's Steilacoom home June 23, 2010.

Mother’s Day events are happening at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, whether you plan to stay on base or explore the surrounding community.

If you’re looking to stay close to home, JBLM starts the celebration with its annual Mother-Son Dance at the McChord Club and Community Center today. The dance welcomes sons of all ages to bring their mothers to dance, but Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation officials said the event is geared toward children.

Sons should dress in semi-formal attire. MWR will provide light snacks and games, but suggests bringing your own camera.

Tickets are $17 per couple and $7 per son after that. You can get your tickets at Leisure Travel Services, 2275 Liggett Ave., Lewis Main.

The annual Mother’s Day Brunch will be at two locations starting at 10 a.m. this year, said administrative assistant David Lamb with the American Lake Conference Center. The center will play host alongside the McChord Club.

“We haven’t been open for the last couple of years for Mother’s Day,” Lamb said. “We’ve got a gorgeous view of the lake.”

The center recently completed its renovations, Lamb said, so it’s fully ready to accept up to 1,200 guests.

Customers will have their names at reserved seats in the Eagle View and Pine View rooms. Each room now has a wide view of the lake.

The menu is hefty and just under $25 per adult. Salads, seafood, carved meats, eggs or pasta to order and a main buffet await, no matter what meal of the day you want.

Children ages 6 to 10 are $13.95, 3- to 5-year-olds are $5. Children 2 and younger are free.

Lamb said American Lake still is taking reservations “down to the last minute,” but asked that people call 964-1209 as soon as possible.

Off-base, JBLM’s Bettie Brigade will be rolling up in the Rainy City Roller Dolls’ grill Saturday at the Centralia Rollerdome, 216 W. Maple St. Moms pay just $6.
