Take the JBLM ride share survey online

JBLM invites you to participate in this important survey. JBLM has a goal of reducing air pollutants by the year 2020.

One way to reduce the pollution is to share rides to work, play or shopping. As a major employer in Pierce County, JBLM has received a request from Pierce County to perform a commute trip reduction survey under the Trip Efficiency Act adopted by Washington State in 2006.

The electronic JBLM survey takes place now through July 15 at HTTPS://www.ctrsurvey.org. Service members or civilian employees will use their official email as login. Your email address is not shared with anyone. The email address is used for tracking numbers of surveys taken by JBLM service members and civilian employees.

The link for the survey is HTTPS://www.ctrsurvey.org. It is open now. A $10 gift card will be given out at random to employees who complete the 13-question survey from Pierce Transit.

Madigan pharmacy’s new hours in effect

The Madigan Army Medical Center Main Outpatient Pharmacy has changed its hours.

The number of staff members will increase during the new peak customer hours, providing for prompt service.

The Madigan Main Outpatient Pharmacy, including the inside walk-up refill window and drive-thru refill pharmacy, will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Madigan Main Outpatient Pharmacy will remain open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on training holidays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Naturalization ceremony for kids

Children become citizens when their parents are naturalized or when their adoption is finalized. The court invites children to participate in a welcoming ceremony of their own at the Tacoma Union Station and Courthouse at 1717 Pacific Avenue, from 3:30 to 5: p.m., June 20. The free ceremony will be conducted by Judge Ronald B. Leighton.

Mounts road gate to close to widen road

Mounts Road Gate on JBLM Lewis Main will close for two weeks beginning Monday through June 23 for road widening and intersection improvements by WSDOT. Commuters who enter or exit JBLM via Mounts Road Gate will need to use other gates during the construction.

Nisqually river to close to fishermen

In accordance with Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, the Nisqually River will be closed to fishing as directed in the 2014 Fishing Pamphlet starting Aug. 11. Access to the river will be closed to all individuals wishing to fish on those dates identified by regulation. All individuals wanting to fish are responsible for checking the WDFW web page at wdfw.wa.gov/fishing for emergency closures and updates, as well as in the current state pamphlet.

Final call for Army Ten-Miler tryouts

Army active duty personnel’s last of three time trials for the formation of the JBLM Army Ten-Miler Team is scheduled for July 12. Arrive at 7 a.m. to check in at Cowan Stadium, Lewis Main. Those selected will attend the Army Ten Miler in Washington, D.C. Final team selections need command approval to participate in team training and workouts during normal PT times.

Free movies at Shoreline Park

Everyone’s invited over to Shoreline Park during the summer for monthly free outdoor cinemas on Saturdays.

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets for a fun time starting at dusk (around 8:30–9 p.m.).

“The Lego Movie” is playing June 28.

July 26 will be a “Christmas in July” theme with “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” — wear your holiday outfits and bring your cameras for photos with Santa!

Tacoma Avenue closed permanently

Tacoma Avenue on Lewis Main closed permanently last week due to construction. Pierce Avenue is a primary access route to facilities east of 18th and 19th streets, now open to facilitate travel from Colorado Avenue to Pierce Avenue. Speed limit will be posted at 25 mph through the construction areas to minimize danger to motorists and pedestrians.

Enter JBLM Payday golf scramble

Enter the JBLM Payday Golf Scrambles at Whispering Firs and Eagles Pride golf courses. If you’re an ID card holder, you and your friends can enter five-person scrambles on the following weekdays with a 1 p.m. shotgun start:

Free EFMP movie at McChord June 21

Summer sunset menu unveiled at bistro

Joint liquid logistics exercise continues

U.S. Army, Naval, Air Force and Marine Corps units will participate in the Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise during the first three weeks of June. The U.S. Air Force will support the mission by providing communications for the exercise. The USAF will also have its Petroleum Quality Assurance technicians train with the Army’s Petroleum Quality Assurance technicians. 92L’s.

This years’ QLLEX will be the first time the mission will use both active and Reserve Army watercraft during the exercise.

The QLLEX is an annual exercise that allows military reserve components the opportunity to exercise their fuel hauling capabilities, utilizing military trucks to move fuel to various locations.

Housing services hours change

Due to manpower reductions, the Housing Services Office customer service hours of operation are now Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Hours of operation the fourth Thursday of every month are 8 a.m.-noon. Customers are advised that service wait times could exceed 20 minutes between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. hours due to reduced staffing. We regret the inconvenience. YTC change of command July 10

The Yakima Training Center will hold a Change of Command ceremony July 10 at 10 a.m.

Lieutenant Colonel R. Darrell O’Steen, Jr. will relinquish command to Lt. Col. Jason A. Evers on the YTC Parade Field.

Evers’ previous assignment was with the U.S. Army District Corps of Engineers at Kansas City, Mo. O’Steen is going to Camp Hovey Korea to serve as a deputy brigade commander in 2nd Infantry Division. For details, call the YTC, 509-577-3201.

JBLM half-marathon & resiliency run

Everyone’s invited to the JBLM Half Marathon and 5K Resiliency Run June 21 at 8 a.m. starting at Russell Landing at JBLM-Lewis North. JBLM will be an open base for this event. Only photo identification is required for installation access.

Half-marathon runners will turn around at beautiful Solo Point on Puget Sound. The new course is designed to challenge participants and showcase the beauty at JBLM. Runners in the 5K will enjoy a mostly flat course with a turnaround at Shoreline Park.

Age-group awards will be presented after the race. Snacks and water will be available after the race and other beverages can be purchased at the Bistro at Russell Landing.

Register online at JBLMmwr.com/races. Runners with strollers are welcome to participate. The race course crosses over the DuPont Steilacoom Road. Only runners with strollers will be able to cross the DuPont Steilacoom Road at street level. All other runners will use the Lewis North 8th St. footbridge crossing.

Warrior Zone open mic all summer long

Like to perform? The Warrior Zone is bringing back Open Mic Nights on the patio Thursdays through Sept. 25. Sign up at 6 p.m. if you want to perform, showtime from 7-10 p.m.

Whether you sing, perform comedy, read poetry, play an instrument, freestyle rap or beat box, impress the crowd with your talents.

The event is open to service, family members and DOD civilians ages 18 and older.

Free mulch on base for your garden

Gardeners: Did you know you can use shredded paper to mulch plants? Paper mulch keeps the ground cool, and smothers weeds. After the shreds have been laid down and watered, they form a blanket similar to papier-mâché - water still gets through, but the weeds can’t.

The JBLM Document Destruction Facility produces tons of free paper shreddings perfect for your garden. Pendleton gate near pet bde open

The Pendleton Gate will be open 4-6 p.m. weekdays for outbound Lewis Main and Lewis North traffic making a right turn only onto DuPont-Steilacoom Road. The Pendleton Gate is on Lewis North, near the Pet Bde.

To access Pendleton Gate: From Lewis North, take Main Street past the Lewis Army Museum, and turn right just before the bend (last right-turn before the Pendleton underpass), and continue past the Pet Brigade to the gate.

From Lewis Main, take Pendleton Blvd. through the Pendleton underpass, take the first left, and proceed straight to the gate.

Rent a plot at new McChord garden

If you live or work at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and want your own garden, you can rent a garden plot at the new McChord Field Community Garden.
