With the end of the year bringing the cheer of the holiday season, it shouldn’t be a surprise to runners on Joint Base Lewis-McChord that there will be a matching theme for the final race of 2015.

The JBLM Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will present the Jingle Bell Jog and Reindeer Romp Dec. 12 at Eagles Pride Golf Course.

The run was moved back to the golf course on Lewis Main so organizers won’t have to close roads, allowing an open trail for runners.

“It’s an opportunity for us to be self-sufficient and have a good quality race,” said Aaron Jones, director of JBLM’s sports, fitness and aquatics programs.

The event will feature three different runs to meet ages and running abilities, including the 5K starting at 10 a.m. for adults and older children. Before that race, younger runners will have a choice between one of two Reindeer Romps with the 1K and 2K events.

According to Jones, different runs allow the whole family to participate.

“Not every kid can run a mile and a half, and we didn’t want to exclude any kids who are 3 years old and want to run with mom and dad,” Jones said.

In addition to the fun run, there also will be a variety of door prizes available for all participants to have a chance to win. The big prize is a Dell laptop computer that will be awarded to the person who wins the run’s “Ugliest Holiday Sweater Contest.”

There aren’t necessarily any rules, but Jones said he has learned a few tricks and tips from his holiday sweater victories in the past. Some ideas he has seen work include having ornaments hang from the sweater and even holiday lights sewn in connected to a batter pack that sits within a pocket.

The early registration period ended Wednesday, but there is still a chance to register before the race. The fee for the 5K is $20 with a military affiliation — valid ID required — and $30 for those without an affiliation to JBLM.

For the runners who wait until the day of the run to register at Eagles Pride, the fee is $30 with military ID and $40 without. The fee for the either Reindeer Romp is $12 regardless if the child is registered between now and race day.
