With the weather getting colder, there is plenty to do indoors at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Single service members and families can find many activities to keep them busy into the new year. Enjoy pool time, competitive gaming, movies and kid-friendly entertainments, without ever having to leave JBLM.
Create your own arts and craft Saturday and Jan. 2 at the Arts and Crafts Center on McChord Field. Get help with custom framing, sewing and other craft projects as well as information on upcoming classes. The center is located at Building 1121 on Barnes Boulevard. See feature films on the big screen at Carey Theater, located across the street from Waller Hall. The Northwest Adventure Center also has plenty for families to do inside.
On Dec. 27, visit the Seattle Aquarium and Pike Place Market with the NWAC. Meet at the NWAC at 9:30 a.m. to take a bus up and avoid worrying about parking. The trip fee includes aquarium admission. Tickets are $50 for adults, $40 for ages 4 to 12 and $30 for ages 3 and under.

Bowl Arena Lanes has been hosting an all-you-can-eat pizza and bowling event every Wednesday for more than 10 years. For $10 per person, plus the cost of shoe rental, play a few rounds and eat pizza. Children age 5 and under are free with a paid adult. Soft tacos are also available on the first Wednesday of every month.
Manager Janet Foster said it isnt always a packed house, but seems to be a popular event and she hopes even more so now that they are offering all-you-can-eat soft-tacos, instead of pizza, on the first Wednesday of every month.
We do have a lot of (Family Readiness Groups) take advantage of the prices and use it as a Family Readiness Group night, she said.

Sounders Lanes offers Family Fun Bowling every Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon. Kids bowl for $5, including shoe rental, with a paid adult. The weekly special costs $10, plus the price of shoes. The special is free for children age 5 and under, who must be accompanied by a paid adult.
Bring a group to the family bowling New Years Eve party Dec. 31 at Sounders Lanes. Get there early to win door prizes before bowling begins at 7 p.m. The event counts down the time to the east coast New Years Eve. Tickets are $20 per person and include bowling, food, drinks and party favors.
Sounders Lanes also hosts a 9-pin no-tap bowling tournament the second Saturday of each month. Sign up a four-person team for $25 each player. The next event is Jan. 9 starting at 1 p.m. Sign in at noon to practice before the event begins.

Single service members can also find numerous events just for them at the Warrior Zone. Compete in weekly tournaments, or watch games on the small screens and movies in the theater.
Watch Monday Night Football from 5 to 7 p.m. Food and drink specials include six wings for $6, pork macho nachos for $5 and drink specials every quarter. Play football frenzy by spinning a wheel for prizes, such as coupons for the dining area.
Tuesdays are all about the weekly pool tournaments in the main area. Register by 6 p.m. to play at 6:30 p.m. Prizes include gift cards, trips and more.
Every Saturday, watch anime favorites in the VIP room starting at 9 p.m. Food and drinks purchased in the dining area are allowed in the theater. The first episode is preselected, and the viewings continue as long as the audience would like.
The Warrior Zone is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Children who love playing with building blocks can join the Lego Club on the first Saturday of each month at the McChord Field Library. Ages three and up can use the provided Legos. Please do not bring in personal toys as they may get mixed in with supplied blocks. Space is limited, so parents are encouraged to register at engagedpatrons.org. The next meeting is Jan. 2, starting at 10 a.m.
There is also a winter reading program for kids. To encourage them to get into reading, both the McChord Field and Grandstaff Libraries are hosting events and competitions for all ages.
On Wednesdays from 10. a.m. to 3 p.m., children can listen at story time in the Grandstaff Library. On Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., children age 5 and under can enjoy story time at McChord Field Library. Kids can also hear stories and do crafts at both libraries.
On Wednesday, children can enjoy the Pajama Party Story Time at the McChord Library starting at 6 p.m. Hot cocoa and treats will be available while kids listen to holiday stories near a Christmas tree. Santa Claus may drop by for the good boys and girls.
